Welcome to the
Pilot Watch program.
A unique concept driven by British Airways Virtual to
improve the enjoyment of Flight Simulator enthusiasts in a fast growing but a
highly un-regulated industry.
Background
We do live in an environment, unfortunately, where
Virtual Airlines and Flight Simulator Organisations are targeted by a small
minority of people who have malicious tendencies and attempt to sabotage the
framework of such organisations. We feel it is time that a scheme like Pilot
Watch be implemented as an approved Industry benchmark. This scheme will not
offer full protection, however if a number of established FS organisations are
sufficiently interested we may go some way to improving the hobby we claim to
represent.
The
Main Aims
We would like to stress at this point that this scheme is not
directed at the majority of Flight Simulator enthusiasts but a very small
minority who claim to be hobbyists. We must also stress that this scheme is not
intended to act as Big Brother but purely as a deterrent and provide a
"name and shame" list of users for participating VAs and FS
Organizations who enjoy this damaging course of
action, which has in the past led to temporary and some permanent closures of
Virtual Airlines and FS Organisations.
We envisage that the Pilot Watch program will draw a certain
amount of critics and also huge interest from certain areas of our industry, but
we hope that you will see what we are trying to achieve. We are committed to
improving the image of Virtual Airlines within the FS
Community and to protect our members from unnecessary
interference so they can enjoy their hobby in peace.
How
it works
In the Virtual Airline scenario, if a
"pilot" is removed for unruly behaviour, there is currently an easy way
out, the "pilot" simply joins another Virtual Airline to maybe
continue in the destruction trail. Virtual Airlines participating in the scheme
would remove such pilots from its ranks , and then an automatic exclusion on the
individual will be enforced by all other Pilot Watch members therefore
attempting to close the area in which they can operate by excluding them from
membership.
British Airways Virtual will maintain a
list of offenders (name only) and will display this information with
participating members.
What constitutes an offence will undoubtedly vary between each Virtual Airline
but here is a small list of potential offences that CEO's may wish to bear in
mind.
1. Severe Language Obscenities. (abusive
manner)
2. Pre-meditated falsifying of credentials.
3. Personal and continued attacks on FS Forum Boards.
4. Threatening Behaviour from other Virtual Airlines and FS Organisations.
5. Malicious Hacking of FS Websites.
Proven
Test Case
The UK has a similar scheme in certain areas of the country in regards
to public houses and nightclubs, if you are barred from one of these
establishments you are automatically barred from all other establishments
participating in the scheme.
British Airways Virtual
pilots are reminded of the Pilot Watch scheme prior to joining, once pilots
have agreed to the terms and conditions of membership of BAV, remaining within
these conditions is the pilots responsibility. If a pilot thinks that his/her
morale standards may come into question at any time during their Virtual Career
then they simply do not join. The system is not designed to be provocative
although some people might think along these lines, this is purely to act as a deterrent
to potential troublemakers who use our hobby as a battleground.
