The DeHavilland DHC-6-300 Twin Otter is a 19 passenger, twin turbo-prop high wing transport/commuter airplane. It is truly a remarkable aircraft considering what it's capabilities are and what it is used for today.

It is a STOL airplane in that it can be used for specialized operations which require Short Takeoff Or Landing procedures (Hence the term STOL). It has two Pratt and Whitney PT6A-27 turbo-prop engines capable of producing 620 hp each. The flaps are one of the most interesting aspects of the airplane in that they are full span, double slotted fowler flaps which travel from the wing root all the way out to the wing tips.

The ailerons are actually part of the flaps themselves which move with and as part of the flaps to a deployed position and then function as ailerons from that new deployed point! All this power and aerodynamic wizardry gives the Otter some incredible numbers for such a big and heavy aircraft. It's Vso is 58 KIAS, and the landing speeds are generally around 75 KIAS but can be as low as 64 KIAS with full flap extension.
