Welcome to the official website covering one of the most exciting and cutting-edge fundraising projects of our time.

Between 19th and 21st November 2003, a team of ten pilots from British Airways Virtual flew around the world in a fixed based flight simulator, to raise money for the BBC Children In Need Appeal 2003. A complete photo diary of the event is now posted in our Cockpit Build Diary section.

The team undertook the challenge to build a flight simulator from scratch, based on the popular Airbus A320 airliner. The simulator was built with the generous support of several organisations on both sides of the Atlantic.

The crew used the simulator around-the-clock for three days, flying stages of 12 legs. Accurate weather and lighting conditions were simulated, continually updated from real-time weather reports taken from stations around the world, as the simulator moved around an accurate model of the earth. Under pressure, the crew also had to communicate with a network of Air Traffic Controllers and contend with other aircraft through the entire route.
